SEO Content writing - what’s that all about?

When I get to the stage with a client where we’ve sorted out all the basic SEO things that were wrong with their site, removed their hidden text and convinced them not to cloak their site (joking btw) its time to write copy. Copywriting (not to be confused with copyrighting which is completely different) is the way forward. Content certainly is king and I used to find it hard to find good copywriters.

Outsourcing copywriting vs inhouse copywriting

We used to outsource all our copywriting but now we’ve got it in-house and it sure makes a difference. If we outsource it we generally have to read it, correct any errors and make some recommendations to make it more search engine compatible. This process is repeated until we finally get the article correct, only then we can then pass the content and implementation recommendations to our clients. This to and fro process takes a lot of time and burns up much needed resources, keeping it inhouse might be a bit more work but in the long run it actually saves us (and our clients!) a lot of time and money.

The thing about SEO copy is that it doesn’t have to be perfect. In this wacky Google world we live in we are creating articles as plain and simple spider food. That said, I don’t find it helpful to produce gibberish articles which doesn’t make much sense to humans, it really is finding a balance. A SEO perfect article will never be gramatically correct.

An amusing test conducted by another SEO dude, David Naylor shows how well crap content will rank. Check out David Naylor’s “Buy Viagra” page here. It ranks page one for its targeted term as you can see here. David not being one to miss a trick I can see has a little google-esque ad on his viagra page. I wonder what the conversions are like! :)
